Technology

Thompson Coach offers unsurpassed technology in all our coaches with emphasis on user friendliness. Everything from our exclusive "Easy Touch" programmable logic control system to our rock solid Level IIIH "Balanced Load" AC electrical power system is state-of-the-art. We lead the industry with our revolutionary electrical design because that has been our forte for almost half a century. In fact, our electrical design personnel have over 100 years combined experience in the field.

The Thompson Coach exclusive "Easy Touch" programmable logic control system is used to control essentially every system in the coach. For instance:

    • All heat and air conditioning systems can be controlled from any of the touch screens, normally located at the driver’s seat, the galley/salon area and the bedroom.
    • The system gives complete voltage, amperage and frequency readings on both AC and DC systems in both graphical and digital format.
    • The Thompson Coach exclusive GENGENIE automatic generator starting system is totally unlike most of our competitor’s systems. It is intelligent, easy to use, and fully automatic.
    • The Thompson Coach exclusive Intelligent Power Transfer System totally automates power transfers and prevents system damage.
    • Lighting control utilizes "teachable" scene buttons. After setting up lighting levels just the way you want them, just press the "learn" button and the system will remember the scene for later one-touch recall.
    • Tank levels are displayed in both graphical and digital formats at several Touch Screen and LED Touch Pad Display locations throughout the coach.
    • Energy management is built into the system. When operating from inverter, non-critical loads are shed automatically as needed to prevent system overload. If GENGENIE is activated, the system will automatically start the generator and bring the shed loads back on line in short order.
    • Start the generator, control the inverters, turn on the air compressor, lower the flat panel TV, or even open a sliding door (as well as numerous other utility functions) by a simple touch at one of the Touch Screen or Touch Pad Display locations.
    • Wireless interface to allow system control via a portable handheld touch screen device.

The Thompson Coach Level IIIH "Balanced Load" AC power system is a giant leap forward in coach power systems technology. Unlike traditional systems, it shares the load equally between multiple inverters even when the connected is load is unbalanced. It manages this while still providing true sine wave 120/240 volt split phase AC current superior to what enters most homes from the utility company. Since inverters share the load, this gives our system the decided advantage of starting larger inductive loads, such as air conditioning, that other systems just can’t handle.

The Thompson Coach exclusive GENGENIE, automatic generator start system is not just an interface to the inverters, like so many of our competitor’s systems. This system is easy to use (simple touch of a button at any touch screen), intelligent (with many more start/stop parameters than other systems), and fully integrated with the other coach systems, such as our Intelligent Power Transfer System and Energy Management System.

The Thompson Coach "Intelligent Power Transfer System" completely automates power transfers and prevents system damage. For instance, in most of our competitor’s coaches, if you should transfer from one power source to another (eg. shore to inverter, or inverter to generator) without first turning off heavy loads such as air conditioning, you might run the risk of damaging the transfer switches or even the inverters. Our Intelligent Power Transfer System automatically turns off the heavy loads before transferring power, and then sequences the loads back on after the transfer is complete. This system is likewise integrated with the GENGENIE system to provide the user the option of truly automatic and unattended power system control.

At Thompson Coach, we don’t just use technology for technology’s sake. Our goal is to start with a superior design and then implement technology in a way that adds reliability, functionality, and user friendliness.
